Stillness Of Time
Dominika Rzeszuto
‘Stillness of time’ is to show the relationship between the photographer and her dog, and to dematerialise the grief of animals, and how
important it is to acknowledge the grief, and to show a rupture in the identity and her life within her self-narrative caused by her loss. Creating a visual history of moments she wants to ‘freeze in time’ and allowing her to move forward without erasing and forgetting the past. Showing the reality through different media and experiments to create a spiritual, emotional presence without the physical presence, establishing a continued bond even through his absence, and presenting the importance of the bond.
The photographer wanted to show her healing process, but also the stages of grief that she goes through, because society fails to recognise the pain of loneliness and isolation because it's not a common loss to go through that is made public. Different images present a permanent scar caused by grief, and the emptiness left by her dogs’ death. This project is a way to embrace the embodying of the dog’s presence that is still carried with her, which validates her deep and personal functioning even after the tragedy.
